Southwest Michigan Chorale Concerts
Join us for a fantastic choral concert either May 12th in Sodus or May 13th in Harbert. The Southwest Michigan Chorale is a local touring choir that is made up of members from St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, the Southwest Michigan Symphony Chorus and other community singers. This 40-voice choir had tremendously successful performing tours of Ireland in 2017 and European capitols Budapest, Vienna and Prague in 2019. They are preparing for a tour to Italy at the end of May of this year.
These concerts offer an enjoyable opportunity to hear local singers perform works by mostly American composers including Randall Thompson, Rosephanye Powell and Z. Randall Stroop – all well-known current composers from the U.S. The Italy Concert Tour is titled “A Celebration of American Music” and will feature folk songs, spirituals, and other pieces that demonstrate the American spirit and experience.
Conducted by David Carew and James Kraus, we welcome guest conductor Joshua Goines to direct several selections. The choir will be presenting several concerts while in Italy and provide music at a service at the Vatican. We will take a free-will offering during the concerts to help cover extra expenses for the Italy Concert Tour.
