Visitor FAQs

We love having people visit St. Joe First UMC and we hope we can help you to Connect, Learn, and Serve.

We strive to help people connect to God and others. We also want to help people learn about God and His Holy Word, and we offer many opportunities to serve and help others.

Where do I park?

The church's parking lot may be entered from either Lakeview Ave. (east side) or Leco Ct. (west side). Drop off area and handicapped parking are closest to the Leco Ct. entrance and flagpoles. There are reserved parking spots for handicapped and veterans. Overflow parking is available in the adjacent lot or alongside the streets.

What entrance do I use?

The sanctuary is easily accessed by using the double entry doors on either side of the memorial bell garden (Entrance 1 & 2). Greeters will be happy to meet you and answer any questions. You can also use the Wayfinder boards just inside entrances 1, 2, and 3.

The nursery is Room 101, just inside Entrance 1. Use the middle set of doors (Entrance 2) to go to the church office, Fellowship Hall, classrooms, and the FLAME Youth Center.

What should I expect during a service?

We offer two different types of services each Sunday; our Traditional Service and our Modern Service. To learn about our Sunday morning services, use the links above for more information about each type of service. Bibles and hymnals are provided in the pews. During our casual service, you may follow along on the screens for the Scripture reading and all of the song lyrics.

At each service, people are asked to fill out a Connection Card to help us get to know you. Please let us know you are visiting and be sure to pick up a Gift Bag at the Hospitality Desk. If you would like to see more of the church, personal tours are available after the services.  We enjoy meeting visitors and showing you around!

What is the music like?

We are a church definitely known for music! Our traditional service offers hymn singing along with a variety of special music including classical, contemporary, vocal, instrumental, and orchestral. It also features our Chancel Choir and beautiful pipe organ. We have a bell choir that performs regularly. Our modern service is led by a vocalist and worship band and features contemporary music that you hear on Christian radio today. Find out more about our music programs.

What do I wear?

We want you to feel at ease worshiping with us. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. In general, people attending the traditional service at 9:00 dress business casual -anything from dresses and dress slacks with a shirt and tie to khakis and polos. Most people in the modern service dress casually - anything from khakis and polos to jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops.

What if I need coffee?

We have GREAT coffee!!  Just come to our Hospitality Desk in the lobby before and between services to get a cup of coffee. If you would like more refreshments, stop by Fellowship Hall for all sorts of tasty treats. As our guest, feel free to help yourself to complimentary refreshments.

What about younger children?

Child care for infants through preschool age is provided all morning in the Nursery, staffed by a professional attendant.  Young ones are welcome to sit with their parents in the sanctuary during the services if preferred.  We also have couches and comfy chairs at the back of the sanctuary, which is another option for seating.

  • During the 9:00 service, children preschool and under are in the Nursery (Room 101 - Entrance 1) where they will hear Bible stories and get a chance to know and play with other young children.

  • During the 11:00 service, children preschool and under are in the Nursery (Room 101 -  Entrance 1).  Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade sit in the sanctuary for part of the service and then are dismissed to Kids' Worship in the Youth Center Room 305.

  • Sunday School is also offered for all children at 10:00 between services. Infant through preschool in the Nursery.

K-5th Grade in Rooms 308 & 309.  Classrooms are located off Fellowship Hall.

What about older children?

September through May, a Sunday Morning Connection Group is offered from 10:00-10:50 for kids 6th-12th grade in the Youth Center. If you choose to attend the modern service at 11:00, teens usually sit up front together.  Check out more of our  FLAME Youth Ministry activities.

How do I get involved?

There are many ways to get involved. Here are four of them:

1) Come to a worship service on Sunday.
2) Look into joining a small group
, and get to know some great people.
3) Come to
one of our special events, and enjoy fellowship with the church family.
4) Find an opportunity to serve -
here, near, or far.
